Well as we approach Christmas I thought it was time for my second annual Christmas message!
It’s been a big year for our little community, a number of us have become parents, we’ve collectively had several changes in jobs and Kernow even toyed with setting up his own business (how’s it going by the way?) FishyGinger turned up and was soon acting like he’d always been here, and in recent months MetalRodent, PonderingWalrus and a few others have all joined up and racked up impressive post counts already. But we’ve also lost a few people along the way; with long time OXMer Mike leaving to front Outside Xbox (I assume because Jane is easier on the eye than Log) and more recently Matt announcing he’s going onto pastures new. So welcome to the new guys and good luck to the old.
This year’s also seen several of us make the jump from mere plebs to proper contributors. Grummy and Sid both had full online articles published, I contributed to a couple and Jam even took his stalking to new levels by doing an internship with our hosts. Many thanks as always to Ed for taking the step of making us feel like part of a community rather than just customers, and for his gentle editing to first timers.
On the game front we’ve seen the end of some long running stories, with both Assassins Creed and Mass Effect proving that you don’t actually have to have a clue what you’re doing to finish a much loved story, so long as you don’t mind pissing off or disappointing fans. But that’s been offset by some great new stories to fall in love with, with Dishonoured, Spec Ops: The Line and Sleeping Dogs being personal highlights. Weirdly though I both started and finished this year playing Skyrim.
Finally many thanks to everyone who makes these forums worth hanging out in. You’re a great bunch of people I’m proud to call friends and you’ve made 2012 a really fun year for me. Special thanks to Ed and the other OXM staff for giving us a place to hang out, and to Kernow for being our very overworked underappreciated Moderator. If the world doesn’t end on Friday I look forward to spending 2013 with you all.
TLDR: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, hope the Apocalypse doesn’t happen.
