Dang it, burned again! Was it really necessary to reveal the fate of Joker?? Seeing as he is in the launch trailer, I wouldn't have assumed that he'd be wiped out in the intro!
Also, aren't the enemies called The Collectors?
Good review though, the game sounds amazing, and I really can't wait til Friday! Hopefully Game will get my limited edition pre-order to me early! |

So, I'm the only one who enjoyed exploring barren planets in the insane-physics-mobile then? I'm disappointed the Mako won't feature in the sequel - it was such a large part of the first game, and I thought it worked well. Surely everyone was touched as they bounced over the surface of Luna and caught a glimpse of Earth! No?
Is there a reason the entire OXM staff gets credit for writing the review? Paragraph each? _________________ GT: Tiamtu |

You aren't the only one, I really enjoyed throwing around the bouncy Mako. I just would have liked the sidequests to be a bit more involved, that's all. And I did the very same thing on Luna... all three times I played it!
Apparently there's a new exploration vehicle coming, in the form of (hopefully free) DLC, so perhaps that will address the issue of the missing Mako. |

Bravo for unwarned spoilers. Just because something happens in the opening cinematic does not mean it's ok to ruin it for people. The establishing scenes are just as important as the ending, or as any twists.
Unprofessional. Again. You need to pull it together OXM, this just doesn't cut it. It's a shame, because the rest of the review was good, you just went and ruined it with one amateurish oversight. |

Agreed. The trouble with the side-quests was that they quickly became very 'samey' in my opinion - each time you entered a building or mine it looked exactly like the last. I thought this was odd given that the planets themselves - albeit similarly desolate - all felt quite different.
Truly hope for the return of the Mako. It won't be the same if the vehicular exploration is removed entirely. _________________ GT: Tiamtu |

Absolutely. I spent a crazy amount of time just driving around exploring on my first run through. It took me 60 hours. I just did a second playthrough a couple of weeks ago, where I did much the same, but corrected some mistakes to take certain decisions through to ME - it's my 'perfect file', if you like. That took me 50 hours, and I completed every side quest in the game.
As soon as the credits rolled, I started from scratch, and finished the game in 30 hours, just doing the main part of each sidequest and ignoring the exploration. But I would definitely hate to see it removed entirely. I was surprised to see you get shuttled down to planets and go on foot from there. Hopefully the Hammerhead vehicle will allow for a bit more free-roaming, or perhaps ME2 is so good, we won't actually miss it.

I've gotta agree with teh spoiler thing, it's hugel unprofessional, it's that kind of thing that stopped me buying the mag.
Not the greatest review tbh. I'll be buying the game regardless, but you've actaully gone some way to give me some concerns rather than make me excited.
Your review makes the game sound like one long story and dialog with occasional questing thrown in. That's NOT what I want from this game. The first one bored the hell out of me after the first playthrough because there was so much talking and pages and pages of infromation to trawl through. I was really hoping that was cut down to size making conversations more compact and with less abundance of peripheral information.
You also mention that the combat is quite spread out, Im just hoping its not too much so.
Quite surprised you gave it a 10 considering you actually highlighted a number of smallish issues. Sceptical now as to whether it genuinely deserves a 10 or not.
And by the by, the CVG review was miles better than yours. You guys ould learn something from them. _________________ The Artisit formerly known as Grumftheld |

So Joker is dead hmmm
Bearing in mind Seth Green (who lends his voice to Joker) was heavily involved in Mass Effect 2 I highly doubt it |

Agree with Grummy. The CVG review was a much more thoughtful and balanced review. As was the Xbox World 360 (never seen so many websites linking to each others reviews) but both still gave it 90%+ so I'm now really excited about what was already a must buy game.
But seriously guys, if you need to put in spoilers (and I can't think of a single good reason to EVER put in spoilers) at least warn us |

Man, I can't believe I'm not going to get to play this until May! I'm writing my final year dissertation on Mass Effect (a portrayal of conflicting real-world identities and the post 911 consciousness), so I asked my girlfriend to hold onto ME2 until I've finished. Can't afford any distractions...but still...GRR!!! _________________ Serious callers only. |

Any word on if you're going to spend roughly 20 hours of your 50 hour play-through going up and down in lifts? Those lifts... it was like they would never end... |

More talk and less shooting can only be a good thing, in my opinion. The combat in the first game was horrendous.
I just hope the Save System has also been improved. Nothing worse than seeing two hours worth of grinding, talking and gathering information go to waste simply because you happened to run into a combat situation and found that suddenly you weren't allowed to save in the middle of the fight. So you die and end up having to replay the last two hours. What the f**k? Is the first game's Save Function on some kind of ridiculous timer or something? |

Come now, don't be silly.
Regarding the save system: no, it certainly wasn't on a timer. The game autosaves before and after potentially 'major' events; so, as you land on a new planet, once you complete an objective, etc. I agree that it was far from perfect, as twice did I experience crashes during the fight with Matriarch Benezia, and had to return to much earlier in the game and play through what I'd just done! Most annoying. _________________ GT: Tiamtu |

Thats one of the gripes i had with the first game - it was a real chore to play a second time - i remember starting a second playthrough and giving up as soon as i got to the first big hub (Citadel wasnt it?)
Yeah they mention a number of issues they had with the game and still gave it a 10 - just like MW2...
And yet they knock Saboteur down to 6, Darksiders down to 7 (Darksiders is fukn awesome too) and give the latest J-pop Piece of Shit Bayonetta a 9?!
I can honestly say that i want to know what you think of Mass Effect 2 GrummyPie - we've had quite similar tastes and opinions of late and of all the forum posters on here (the 5 or 6 that are still on here anyways..) yours is the opinion that i look for...
Oh and RE:The Review - the only plot i remember from the first ME - was a bad alien threat led by a badguy; Shepherd being given a proverbial "Licence to Kill" to stop the bad alien - doing so - happy days...
That plus a "choose 1 party member to die" segment straight from Biowares Best games, SHIT exploration of planets that were all the same, SHIT inventory system, SHIT loading times, and dialogue "setpieces" ripped from KOTOR but no where near as interesting... |

Im making a point about the "AAA Massively HYPED" Games that OXM hands 9 or 10/10 Scores to while games with less Hype and/or publicity get lower scores and criticised for things like in Darksiders Case: "It brings nothing new to the table" - and what MOdern Warfare 2 did? |

i'm sorry, but i've read so many of these reviews and seen so many of the same damn comments that its quite pathetic now. If you don't agree with a review, fine, a review is the REVIWERS opinion. You wanna express yours? write your own damn reviews. Also have you considered that the massively hyped games actually DESERVE the damn points? Also if they make it SOUND like alot of dialogue and not much action, consider the fact it IS MOSTLY DIALOGUE compared to the action, but remember, that is the reviewers OPINION!!! If you don't agree that's your opinion, just don't get your knickers in a twist about the reviewer being wrong, no opinion is 'wrong'.
